ILLUSTRATED TALK: Maker and modeller Richard Playle takes us on a light-hearted journey through the history of automata and mechanical toys that have delighted generations for centuries. With practical pieces of his own work, plus examples from the 18th and 19th centuries, he uncovers the intricate mystery of their inner workings, techniques, and craftsmanship of their creators.

He also pays tribute to the current professional modellers, including his mentor, Fe Henshall, whose work can be see in various museums and, for the past two years, at the Glastonbury Festival.
