Vacancy for a Co-opted Parish Councillor in Chagford Parish Council

There is currently a vacancy on Chagford Parish Council which will be filled by co-option. This means the Council can appoint someone to fill the seat until the next ordinary elections.

Would you like to make a difference in your community? Do you have ideas on how to improve local facilities and services? Are you passionate about representing the views of local residents?

If so, you could be our next Parish Councillor!

About the Role - Parish Councillors play an important part in shaping the local area, supporting community initiatives, and making decisions on local issues and services. By becoming a parish councillor, you become someone your community will look to for help, guidance and support, a community leader with the ability to influence decisions for the benefit of the people you serve. Seeing your community change for the better, as a result of decisions you have helped make, is something that can give you a sense of achievement and pride. It’s a voluntary role, but it offers a chance to make a real impact.

Eligibility To be eligible for co-option, you must: Be at least 18 years old, be a British citizen, or a qualifying Commonwealth or EU citizen, and meet at least one of the following: Be registered as a local government elector for the parish; or Have lived in the parish or within 3 miles of it for the past 12 months; or Have your principal place of work in the parish; or Own or occupy land or premises in the parish.

It would be desirable to have the following skills: IT literacy skills An awareness of local issues and community priorities Good communication and interpersonal skills An additional skill that would be useful to the running of Parish Councils. This could be one of the following: interest in finance \ interest in digital engagement \ skills in maintenance or mending \ any other skill you feel would be useful to the Parish Council
